At Wesleyan, we have tried to promote assessment as what takes place at the appropriate time: when a specific faculty member, department, or the administrative office has a question they want answered. We situate ourselves within the “teaching and learning” and “student centered” philosophies outlined by the National Institute for Learning Assessment Outcomes. So, we are interested in gathering information that can inform faculty members’ pedagogies, departmental curricular decisions, and student affairs’ programming. We we also want to understand what students feel is happening to them at Wesleyan and giving them a platform for practicing how they describe their liberal arts education.
