Wesleyan has been slowly building multiple opportunities for students to engage in reflection about their time in college. Three e-portfolio initiatives currently exist that allow students to do this reflection and earn academic credit while doing so. All three ask students to create their portfolios in WordPress sites they install through WesCreates.
Integrative Learning Project
The ILP offers 2 half-credit courses to all students. In WRCT 200, students write reflective pieces about a range of college experiences and use a number of UX research and design methods to place these reflections in their portfolio. In WRCT 300, students focus on a single project or experience they would like to bring to fruition as a website.
Ideals into Practice
Ideals into Practice involves: 1) successful completion of online assignments via Career Decisions: From Insight to Impact on Coursera; 2) participation in a daylong seminar at the start of the spring semester introducing students to an online portfolio platform; 3) completion of reflection pieces uploaded into the student’s online portfolio before the end of the spring semester.
Global Engagement Minor
During their sophomore through senior years, GEM students will complete a series of structured academic and co-curricular activities including an introductory seminar, global perspective coursework, language studies, off-campus cultural immersion, and a capstone seminar that will enable them to synthesize and reflect on the varied components of intercultural competence.
