Each semester, the Assessment Lab hosts a series of what we call “Focus Forums” on a campus issue of our choosing. This is a way for us to check in with the campus on important issues.
Here is how they work:
Choose & research a topic
We choose the issue we would like to explore after reviewing the pitches we receive from staff, students, and faculty on campus.
We then design a set of questions we plan to ask at the Forum about this issue. It’s amazing how much a few finely crafted questions can get people talking!
Recruit participants to talk
We then advertise the dates for the upcoming Forum and recruit students to sign up as participants.
We ask students to watch our consent video prior to their arrival.
Host the forum
Each Forum lasts for about 60 to 75 minutes. We ask participants to sign consent forms that explain the benefits and risks of participating. For most topics, we audio record the sessions and take notes as well.
We proudly use Salsas 3 to provide us with TACOS to keep students happy and full during each session!
