About us
The Assessment Lab works to understand the student academic and co-curricular experience on the Wesleyan University campus. Sometimes we design our own research projects and other times we are commissioned by other offices on campus to collect and analyze data to answer someone else’s question. Our goal is to help Wesleyan’s faculty, staff, students, and administration better understand the student experience in ways that allow us all to improve that experience.
Data collection
Our team members practice a wide variety of data collection methods. In recent years, we have conducted regular and pop-up focus groups, content analyses of websites, and archival work.
Data analysis
Our team members help turn the data we collect into findings. They do this using a wide variety of tools, including Atlas.ti, Excel, Otter.ai, and Asana in collaborative working sessions held each week.
Presentations
Every team member has a chance to present lab findings to campus stakeholders. In recent years, they have presented to staff in the Writing Workshop, Communications, Admissions, and Student Affairs.
